Introduction

The sea, a beautiful name, a mysterious world, and a well-attracted place people on the earth like to imagine. Can we see Poseidon, the King of the Sea, holding his trident and driving his four-horse chariot in the waves? Are the seven pillars supporting the ocean really exist? Do sanctuaries and rainbow-like bridges intersperse among the oceans? Everything there is so desirable.

At the bottom of the ocean where people may never be able to be there exist many unknown creatures and unbelievable things. Some living creatures catch our eyes not due to their odd-looking but their exotic living habits. We can see a mystical world full of unity, cooperation, intrigues and cruel fights, following the rule of survival. Their struggle for survival leaves us many wonderful stories and mysterious phenomenon. Maybe it is what the sea really is, likes a book out of sight that we need to read by our heart.

Why Does Seawater Taste Bitter and Salty?

As we all know, seawater tastes bitter and salty. This is because there are many minerals in seawater. These minerals contain the same ingredients as salt, so that’s why seawater tastes salty. In addition, seawater contains a certain amount of magnesium chloride and magnesium sulfate that make it tastes bitter.

Why Did Life Originate from the Ocean?

Long time ago, ultraviolet rays can reach the ground directly because there is neither oxygen nor ozonosphere. Living creatures relied on the protection of sea water to survive. So the first living creature originated from the ocean.

Why Is the Sea Blue?

Seawater is transparent and has no color itself. The color of seawater depends on the color of reflex of the sea surface and scattered light from the sea. Blue light and green light have the best penetration in water so they have more opportunity to scatter backward. Therefore, the sea water looks blue or green.

How Much Water Is There in the Ocean?

It is estimated that the total volume of the ocean is 1.37 billion cubic kilometers. The sea occupies more than 96% of the water in the world. If we would gather the seawater together, it could form a huge water ball of which the diameter is 1,500km; if we would tile the seawater to the surface of the earth, the water layer thickness would be more than 2,000 meters.
