Sturgeons was appeared about 140 million years ago in the late Mesozoic Cretaceous , as far away as a thousand years in the Zhou Dynasty, the Chinese people called the Chinese sturgeon as king tuna.

 

Chinese sturgeon body was spindle-shaped, head is pointed and long proboscis, there are four mustaches in front of the mouth , Retractable mouth in the ventral surface, can be extended into a cylinder, the body covered five large and hard bone scales,a row on the back , And two lines on the both side. Sturgeon is the Mesozoic Rare ancient fish, it is between the cartilage and bony, bone ossification  decreased.

 

When it comes to summer and autumn,Chinese sturgeon which living in the shallow waters of the Chang River estuary will swim back to the Chang River, after more than 3,000 kilometers of upstream,  return to the Jinsha River area spawning reproduction.When larvae grow up to 15 cm or so, carry them to live off the coast. They are thus born in the upper reaches of the river, and grow in the sea.

 

The Chinese sturgeon has a long life ,and the longest life is up to 40 years. Is a key protected wildlife in China, is also a living fossil, be called" panda in the water" . Has a high scientific, medicinal and ornamental value. Distributed in China, Japan, Korea and so on.
